Abstract

This paper addresses the lack of theoretical foundations for sociodrama and synthesizes an expanded view of sociodrama through boundary objects. In order to do this, the literature on boundary objects is analyzed from a language perspective, and we then propose the framework of sociodrama. This framework with three-stage structures of boundary objects can enhance certain physical and cultural objects in the process of sociodrama. The contributions of this paper are to identify: (1) an alternative theoretical approach on sociodrama; (2) how boundary objects can function as the systemic processes of sociodrama that explicitly incorporate dynamic social interaction; and (3) the ways in which effectiveness can be tested as to how boundary objects enhance or fail to enhance sociodrama in an information system design context.
